本句使用了强调句型 It is/was+被强调成分+that+其他成分，它常用来强调句子中除谓语动词外的各种成分。
若被强调的部分是人，that可以被who替代； 如果把is/was置于句首，则构成强调句的一般疑问句； 如果对被强调的部分进行提问，则构成了强调句的特殊疑问句，本句就属于这种结构。如：
It was an old magazine that Mary found in the bag.
Was it an old magazine that Mary found in the bag？
What was it that Mary found in the bag？
