高口翻译的保留曲目——四字格
四字格是高口翻译题的保留曲目，每次必考，今年也是。下面介绍一种比较具有通用性的四字格翻译技巧，并结合今年真题中的若干例句进行分析。同时，除了提供官方的参考译文之外，也给出考生临场可以采用的其他策略和译文。
我把该方法总结为：去虚取实，逐个击破，连词成句。具体操作是，先将四字格中比较抽象，较为虚幻的成分删除，留下具有实际意义的词汇，然后一一译出，最后通过适当的方式与主句连接起来。
真题原文1：蓝色……既包容万象又蕴含热情与活力
分析：核心信息是包容，热情，活力。第一步，上述三词可以翻为：inclusiveness，passion andvitalty/vigor。第二步，本句主语是“蓝色”，所以最简单的组句方式是：蓝色代表着包容、热情和活力。参考译文：It symbolizes inclusiveness, passion and vitality/vigor.
真题原文2：契合了和谐共存、开放共赢的理念
分析：“和谐共存”、“开放”和“共赢”都有现成的译文可以对应：harmoniouscoexistence，openness和 win-win。句中几乎没有比较“虚”的字词，因此直接连接即可。参考译文：Itaccords to the philosophy of harmonious coexistence, openness and win-win progress.
真题原文3：它寓意着我们将以海纳百川的包容精神，……;以纵论天下的开阔视野，……。
分析：“海纳百川”就是包容的意思，“纵论天下”就是视野开阔的意思，后文是解释前文的，含义重叠，同时考虑到“海纳百川”和“纵论天下”相对比较“虚”，所以翻译时两个四字格可以完全省略，译成It shows thatwe will adopt an inclusive approach ... and take a global perspective ....
当然，如果依然觉得有困难，临场还可以把译文做得更自由，表达出“我们应该包容和有远见”即可：Weshould be tolerant and far-sighted.虽然不算太严谨，但也算是应急之策。
注意，不论是“包容”还是“海纳百川”，都是历年真题中已经考过的内容，不应该成为难点。2006年9月高口汉译英真题中一句话：中国人提倡“海纳百川，有容乃大”。参考译文是The Chinese held that "oneshould be as inclusive as the ocean which is vast because it admits hundreds of rivers".
真题原文4：亚太人文荟萃，潜力巨大，前景光明。
分析：三个四字格中后两个都可以直译(... has enormous potential and promises a brightfuture)，只有第一个“人文荟萃”相对较难。其中，“人”可以理解为人才，“文”自然指文化，我们立刻就能写出talents和culture两个关键词，它们和主语亚太地区(the Asia Pacific)逻辑关系无非是亚太地区有着丰富的文化和大量的人才。考虑到后两个四字格已经译成了两个动词词组，故整句可以译为：A region rich in cultureand talent, the Asia Pacific has enormous potential and promises a bright future.(个人译文)
参考译文：Some believed that rich human resources and cultural diversity held out greatpotential and bright prospects for the Asia-Pacific region,
真题原文5：也有人认为亚太问题丛生，麻烦不断，不容乐观。
分析：“问题丛生，麻烦不断”指存在很多问题和麻烦。“问题”和“麻烦”可以分别译为problems andtroubles，之后要和主语亚太地区连接，方法很多：This region was beset with/was confrontedwith/was faced with many problems and troubles.“不容乐观”没有令人乐观的理由，故译为couldhardly offer any reason for optimism，或者直接断句，译为There is not much reason foroptimism.如果还是不行，还有最后一种方案：“不容乐观”和前句中“前景光明”存在反义关系，意即前景未必光明，因此可以译为：It holds an uncertain future.或It doesn’t promise a bright future.

解析一：四字格
在翻译四字格的时候，一定要注意四个字中词与词之间的关系。比如和谐共存，是偏正结构，即和谐的共存，所以可以用和谐的形容词，harmonious, 因此译成 harmonious coexistence。开放共赢，是并列关系，即开放和共赢，可译成openness and win-win progress. 人文荟萃，可采用偏正结构，即丰富的人力资源以及文化多样性，rich human resources and cultural diversity。前景光明也可采用英语中较多出现的偏正结构，即光明的前景，bright prospects。另外，还有四个字表示一个意思的，比如包容万象，即包容性，inclusiveness, 海纳百川，也是包容性的意思，即inclusiveness或者an inclusive approach。
