英语会考考查内容分为听力理解、语法、词汇、阅读理解、书面表达等知识组块，其中词汇组块以完形填空的形式考查。
听力理解
从以往会考反映的数据看，听力理解和语法两个部分是全卷得分率最高的题型。对会考有困难的考生来说，考前加强听力练习，每天听一套题磨磨耳朵是必不可少的。
单项选择
单项选择部分突出考查综合语言运用能力，但考查范围固定，即会考说明中的50个题型示例。考生要利用会考题型示例复习好语法知识，不要机械背记答案。此外，要注意题型示例中的.语法分类项目。会考涉及的语法项目包括：代词、冠词、介词、形容词的比较级和最高级、动词的时态语态、非谓语动词、情态动词、并列句、主语从句、宾语从句、定语从句、状语从句。一种类型会出1题，重点语法如动词的时态语态、非谓语动词、从句部分会多于1题。考生不要扩大会考单选的复习范围，仅限于50个题型示例即可。单选考前可多做几遍，以确保正确率。
完形填空
完形填空要求考生具备良好的词汇基础和阅读能力。该题型区分度大，有一定的难度。一般来说，前几个空在文中所给提示线索较多，所以相对容易，考生要认真作答。
阅读理解
阅读理解的A、B篇文章较容易。基础较差的考生要静下心，锻炼从较简单的文章中查找答案的能力。阅读与表达部分的文章不难，大约250词，文章后面有3个开放式问题，前两题主要是细节题，难度较小，第3题比较综合，需要概括或推理方可准确答题。该部分每小题2分，可理解为：正确回答得1分，符合字数要求得1分。正确回答是指把信息点回答出来，且大小写、标点符号都正确，可使用短语或句子回答。切记不能超过字数限制，超过就扣分。
书面表达
书面表达部分会给出一些英语提示，提醒考生仔细审题，认真阅读中文部分的具体要求，尤其要关注题目中提到的除英语提示以外要提出的方法、建议、问题等，以免漏掉写作要点。书面表达部分要求考生在行文时根据所给信息写出意思清楚、语言正确、行文连贯和逻辑合理的语段，所以不能只照搬所给英文提示，必须进行合理的细节扩展才能达到要求。
